LONDON
Technology is advancing rapidly, including in the areas of quantum computation and language AI. However, as innovation increases, we have seen layoffs at many tech companies. Social innovations, which often have a more modest approach and less prominent branding, often go unnoticed in the tech industry.
One such innovation is TAP, a program implemented by London Mayor Sadiq Khan to simplify the donation process and address homelessness in London. Through TAP, 100% of donations made through contactless card taps at 100 donation points around London or online go directly to funding projects that change the lives of homeless people across London.
Stats to date:
Number of taps: 81,934
Online donations: 5,431
Total raised: £430,539 ($530,796.46)
Additionally, Mayor Khan uses the term "Rough Sleeper" instead of "homeless", which from our POV, is providing dignity back to those who struggle with home insecurity and it can be a changing term that replaced the stigmatized term of "homeless". These are just a few examples of the social innovations Mayor Khan has implemented in London. I will keep an eye on his progress and hope to see him continue to help others through his social innovations.
